Many indie authors trade five-star, glowing reviews with each other, as well as pressing friends and family into service to write them. These are not honest reviews for the most part; they are incestuous. Disagree all you want, but that's what it is.
If indie authors expect to be treated seriously, then they need to suck it up and accept that just because they can publish it, it doesn't mean it's solid gold. Sorry, but that's life.
My reviews attract a strong number of "unhelpful" votes, presumably from the colleagues, friends and family of the authors who I dared to wound with legitimate criticism. I wear those votes as a badge of pride. Must be doing something right.
